Public Speaking

Giving a speech at Colgate University, 2008

For the past few years, I’ve been on the public speaking circuit. From small high schools to large college campuses to national business functions (I was the 2005 keynote speaker for the American Dietetic Association) I love spreading the good word of sports, health, fitness, and dream chasing.  With the release of AS GOOD AS GOLD, I now have two platform topics.

1. AS GOOD AS GOLD: My attempt to make the Olympic Games as an “older” athlete, and the lessons learned along the way. From the ESPN project to my continued pursuit of athletic greatness, my speech focuses on what it really means to have have a goal and go after a dream.

2. SLIMNESS VERSUS STRENGTH IN ATHLETICS: Modern day America sends some pretty confusing messages to its youth. Especially girls. In a society that still continues to emphasize “beauty” as thinness in women, we must continue to argue the opposite. Through sharing my journey in sports–from a professional figure skater, pro triathlete, and pro cyclist–I expose the demons of body image and try to get young women (and men!) to see themselves in an uplifting, positive light.

If you’d like to have me speak at your school, business, or function. Please send an email for more details!
